Disable Device

Ability: Intelligence.
Requires Training: Yes.

Disable Device represents a character's knowledge of mechanical traps and devices, and their ability to safely manipulate or sabotage them. Skilled characters can study a trap's mechanism, reveal its presence to allies, disable it without triggering it, or carefully recover it for later use. Complex traps require careful analysis and precise manipulation, and failure can have dangerous consequences.

Uses:
- Assess Trap: The character may examine a detected trap to determine its difficulty. This reduces the trap's DC by 7 for the check.
- Flag Trap: The character may mark a detected trap, making it visible to nearby allies. This reduces the trap's DC by 5 for the check.
- Disarm Trap: The character attempts to safely disable the trap, preventing it from triggering.
- Recover Trap: The character may attempt to recover the trap intact for later use. This increases the trap's DC by 10.

Special: Rogues are the only class capable of disarming traps with a DC of 35 or higher.

Synergy: A character with 5 or more ranks in Craft (Tinkering) gains a +2 bonus on Disable Device checks.

Spectacular Failure: When attempting to disarm or recover a trap, a severe failure results in the trap immediately triggering.
